🫧 Why I’d Rather Face H*zbollah than a Bored Toddler

The No Barrier Reef 🪸

Hey Reader,

It's been a minute, I know!

It's been a full month since my last email.

In this time:

  • We got ourselves into a war in the north of Israel (where I live)
  • hundreds of rockets and drones
  • many explosions
  • I'm good, though.

Also:

  • Schools and kindergartens were canceled

This deserves its own bullet because it's the real enemy:

  • My toddler was home and getting bored.

I'd rather take my chances with Hezbollah, to be honest.

So there wasn't much sleep or productivity.

There was lots of running around the house, eating, singing and dancing.

Which is great for the soul.

But not so great for the wallet.

So, my wife pointed out that we needed some extra money.

Here's what I did:

  • First, I realized that at this point in time, I don't have the resources / mental capacity to do anything that doesn't generate income right away.
  • I built a quick landing page with a lead-magnet free offer. (Used Carrd.co for this)
  • I went to my LinkedIn network and sent dozens of DMs daily.
  • At first, the DMs were carefully crafted, but I quickly realized this wasn't the right way to go.
  • So my message became this:
  • This got a decent reply rate. I then proceeded with small talk and trying to find out what's going on with them and if I could somehow be of help (I love helping people)
  • Then came my pitch:

People love helping!

  • Now, I had a steady flow of audit calls.
  • Most were tire-kickers, as expected. Some were qualified and some went straight to business, asking me if I could help them improve their stuff before BFCM.
  • So now I have a couple of new clients and a lot of things to write about!

Time for a safety stop.

Thanks Reader.

If there are any questions, I'd love to hear from you!

Best,

Ohad.

When I was a little kid, I was fascinated with ants. I stared at them for hours. I would follow up on a single colony for week.s I read books about them (highly recommend Bernard Werber's books. Truly innovative) Do you know how to find a colony? You tap an ant. It panics and runs home. Back to where it's safest. People are the same. That's why we shout 'Mommy!' when we're scared. The No Barrier Reef 🪸 The most important part of becoming a solopreneur is failing. If you don’t fail, you don’t learn. And there’s a lot to learn: What kind of work are you really good at? What is your ideal client profile? How much should you charge? What type of content should you write? How should you build your offer? All valid questions, requiring trial and error. The social media gurus love coloring things black & white. “Do this!” “Don’t do that!” “Here’s the simple path to success.”...
