🫧 How you win a dog fight

The No Barrier Reef 🪸

I swing my makeshift club as hard as humanely possible and smack that fucker right on the head!

He howls in pain, and they all run away.

Today, I’m going to tell you a CRAZY story about the importance of prioritization.

It’s 2008, and I live in the Mexican jungle south of Tulum.

Sleep by the beach and dive every day. Life is good.

One evening, I walk home from town carrying a plastic bag with a 1.5-liter water bottle.

The road is pitch black. The jungle trees block the moonlight. It’s dark and quiet.

Suddenly, I hear a growl and a bunch of feral dogs come out of the bush.

Dogs that were left by humans often create packs. These packs live together, roam together, and hunt together.

I’m in trouble now.

They form a circle around me. There must have been 8 of them. Mid-sized, dirty fur, hungry.

The circle starts closing in on me. I’m about to get bit.

Then, my mind clicks, and I go to full-blown survival mode.

I suddenly realize that one dog leads them. he closes the distance first. They follow.

He growls the loudest, promoting courage in his flock.

I scream at him and charge, swinging my makeshift club (plastic bag with a 1.5-liter water bottle) wildly in the air.

I smack that fucker right on the head. He shrieks in pain and panic and runs off.

The other dogs follow him and disappear into the night.

My body’s about to explode from the adrenaline.

I quickly walk home, hoping the pack doesn’t realize there’s eight of them and one me and come back for round #2.

And that’s my story about prioritization.

I couldn’t have possibly fought them all. I could probably only land that one shot before they swarmed all over me.

I had to prioritize. Choose one thing, one target and act.

But do it with 100% conviction.

If you feel like you can't find your focus and want help pointing out your next action, drop me a message.

Happy Monday, everybody.

Time for a safety stop.

When I was a little kid, I was fascinated with ants. I stared at them for hours. I would follow up on a single colony for week.s I read books about them (highly recommend Bernard Werber's books. Truly innovative) Do you know how to find a colony? You tap an ant. It panics and runs home. Back to where it's safest. People are the same. That's why we shout 'Mommy!' when we're scared. The No Barrier Reef 🪸 The most important part of becoming a solopreneur is failing. If you don’t fail, you don’t learn. And there’s a lot to learn: What kind of work are you really good at? What is your ideal client profile? How much should you charge? What type of content should you write? How should you build your offer? All valid questions, requiring trial and error. The social media gurus love coloring things black & white. “Do this!” “Don’t do that!” “Here’s the simple path to success.”...
